Hello, this is President Yasui, running a company that primarily conducts inspections of high-pressure gas equipment as a solo entrepreneur.
The other day, I went out for a meal with a customer.
It’s been about six years since we first met, and even after he changed companies, he has continued to treat me very well.
I’m truly grateful for that.
To all the people involved—thank you very much as always.
Every once in a while, even from those I'm close to, I get asked:
"Aren’t you thinking of expanding your company?"
Thankfully, this may be a reflection of a customer’s wish to offer us more work if only we had more people.
However, for the time being, I plan to continue along the current path.
If the timing is right, there might be a chance for expansion. But as of now, most of the work I receive is based on my individual manual efforts.
Hiring someone at this point could threaten the sustainability of the company.
It’s true that hiring someone could increase revenue figures to some extent, but nurturing and developing talent also takes time and money.
The next step might be to hire someone capable of taking on a decent portion of the work.
At the very least, someone who can earn their own keep.
That seems to be the key concept.
However, that kind of talent is in demand everywhere and not often available in the job market.
As we face the need to grow revenue and increase profits,
we need to ask ourselves: What are our strengths?
We should take the time to share ideas and reexamine the nature of our work.
Something that may have been our strength in the past—does it still hold today?
Do we have strengths that are appealing to the market?
At the very least, if customers are continuing to do business with us, then we likely have one or two things that stand out.
But we need to think about whether those traits create value beyond just the price,
and whether our customers are truly perceiving that value.
Is it our speed? Accuracy? Sense of safety? Unique technologies?
Or do they feel a certain appeal in the people working here?
Let’s dig deep and take a good look at ourselves.
The trend these days is to further develop one’s strengths.
This isn’t like studying for exams, where balance matters.
Instead, we should become aware of the one thing we are clearly outstanding in.
If we find there is something shining but not yet outstanding,
then perhaps we should unite under a shared vision of where we want to go.
There are countless ways to make money in the world.
But if we choose to stick with this line of work, then how do we go about it?
It’s not about quitting because we lack perseverance.
It’s not because it’s unrewarding either.
I believe we need to identify our ideal destination, raise a flag toward that goal, and work together to reach it.
Today’s Quote:
“Discover your strengths, raise a flag toward the ideal vision, and aim for it.”
See you again!
