Hello!
This is Yasui, a solo business owner running a company that mainly inspects high-pressure gas equipment.
I was just working on a business plan and a monthly profit-and-loss projection because, well… I kind of have to.
And honestly? It’s not profitable at all in the early stages, lol.
You might wonder, “Is there even a point in doing this?” — and you wouldn’t be wrong.
Still, I need to take the long view and hope others can understand that vision when I present it.
The other day, I had some work in Isshiki, Nishio City (Aichi Prefecture), and on the way back, I stopped by the Isshiki Fish Market.
There, I found a plate piled high with over ten red shrimp for just 1,000 yen — they looked amazing, so I bought one to take home.
Since getting married, shrimp dishes have never appeared on our table because my eldest son doesn’t like them.
But after fifteen years, shrimp finally made its debut at the Yasui family dinner table!
I deveined them and prepared both sashimi and grilled shrimp with salt.
My daughter, who used to avoid shrimp too (probably influenced by her brother), has recently started trying new foods.
This time, she said she wanted to try both raw and grilled shrimp.
And the result?
She loved it — said it was delicious with a big smile on her face.
Since they still had their heads, she even tasted a bit of the shrimp miso!
Watching that moment made me really happy — I could feel her growing up right before my eyes.
Later, when we were about to head out to the supermarket to get things for a BBQ,
she said, “That shrimp was so good! Please buy more — promise!”
(lol, she can be very persuasive!)
I think we all have foods or experiences we avoid just because of how they look or because we “probably wouldn’t like them.”
But watching my daughter try something new reminded me how powerful that moment of discovery can be —
how refreshing it feels, how it can open up your world, and how it can move your heart.
Honestly, I hardly ever eat shrimp sashimi at home either, so it was a fresh and surprisingly moving experience for me too.
Sharing delicious food together and feeling happy around the table — that’s something truly wonderful, isn’t it?
And to think it only cost 1,000 yen!
It wasn’t about the price.
It was about that small luxury of joy we could all (well, except my son, lol) share together as a family.
When we just go through our daily routines, it’s easy to stop feeling amazed or emotionally moved.
We get tired.
We stop noticing the little things that make life beautiful.
That’s why people seek escapes — they travel, eat fancy meals, or look for something new to soothe the heart.
But really, happiness is already all around us —
the air that feels fresh, the stars that shine brightly, the sunset that glows red, the simple meal that tastes amazing.
If you choose to notice, there’s beauty and joy everywhere.
So that’s what today’s story is about — touching something new, feeling moved again, and letting your heart be stirred.
We can’t always live like that every day, but we can choose to color our lives a little brighter from within.
Let’s look at each day with fresh eyes, and live with gratitude and quiet joy.
Thank you so much for reading!
See you next time!
