Hello there, this is Yasui, the solo president running a company that mainly conducts inspections for high-pressure gas facilities.
Today, I stopped by a secondhand tool shop and saw a Sanki Technos explosion-proof portable fan selling for around 8,000 yen.
For a moment, I almost bought it—but I managed to hold myself back since, honestly, I don’t really have a place to use it.
It wasn’t a current model, but it looked almost brand new—probably used only a few times—so I’d say it was still in great shape and quite a bargain.
This time of year, the schedule tends to be pretty empty, and as a result, sales become unstable.
It’s a common thing in our inspection industry, I suppose, but it still really eats away at you mentally.
I’ve always thought that this line of work is a reactive business, so I try to keep the doors open wide and position myself to handle as much as possible without missing any opportunities.
Sometimes jobs overlap, so I ask clients to help adjust or spread things out when possible.
Honestly, I’m really grateful for their cooperation—without it, I couldn’t manage this kind of coordination.
There’s no fixed income, but there are definitely fixed expenses, and that’s one of the weak points in the foundation of my business.
Since I don’t have steady monthly or recurring work, once the regular annual inspection jobs wrap up, things suddenly become unstable.
Even though it happens every year, I can never quite escape that uneasy feeling.
Maybe I should do something about it… perhaps more sales activity is the key?
Ideally, I should store up enough work during the busy summer season to prepare for the winter slowdown.
That’s the correct approach in theory—but it doesn’t really match the current era, where people emphasize taking time off and maintaining balance.
Alternatively, I could focus on inspection types that aren’t affected by the seasons, like new installation inspections. That might be a good direction to expand into.
I may not have stable, fixed monthly income, but precisely because of that, I should be using this time wisely—
to prepare for next season, to gain new qualifications, and to keep improving myself.
Let’s make sure not to waste our time.
