Hello, this is Yasui, the president of a one-person company specializing in inspections of high-pressure gas equipment.
Today, I met with some people and then spent the rest of the day tidying up my warehouse.
Things like trash and unused items pile up quickly, and if I don't clean up regularly, the warehouse gets packed to the point where there's no room to step. Regular disposal is essential to maintain enough space.
Winter is a quiet season in this industry, and time flows at a more relaxed pace.
During this period, it's crucial to make the most of the time available to tackle things I usually can't focus on due to a lack of time.
Given the nature of periodic inspections, the annual work cycle tends to be quite similar. Of course, this work is important, and I need to perform it diligently.
As part of society's machinery, fulfilling our role responsibly is our mission.
However, if we simply maintain the status quo, it can threaten our very survival.
Doesn't learning something new feel more burdensome as you get older?
Learning how to use a new machine, trying out new home appliances, handling something for the first time, or even tasting a new dish can evoke excitement, but also a tinge of hesitation or discomfort.
Those who can feel excitement are young at heart and in mind. They actively seek stimulation and live each day with a youthful spirit.
As the saying goes, "Youth is fleeting, and learning is difficult."
If you don't dedicate yourself to learning when you're young, it becomes increasingly challenging to do so as you age. Unless you're deeply inspired or pursuing something you love, it's hard to overcome this hurdle.
We shouldn't shy away from new challenges or remain stagnant where we are.
By reading various books, learning from history, and gaining insights for both work and personal goals, we can focus on realizing the things we truly want to achieve.
Why? Because once you start learning, you begin to crave knowledge. That's what happened to me.
"I want to try, but..."
"I want to read, but I don't have time."
For several years after my child was born, I avoided taking on anything new.
Then, two years ago, I took a course I had been curious about (not a self-help seminar, I promise!), and I started buying and reading all kinds of books. Once I finished one, I found myself asking, "What should I read next?" and the process became a chain reaction.
I realized that if the brain stops seeking new things, it stagnates. But if you pursue knowledge, your brain will keep up with you.
The brain deteriorates if it's not used.
Work alone tends to make life monotonous.
The human brain is an incredible tool that we all possess, so it's a shame not to use it. I truly felt that way.
If you don't do anything, you'll inevitably age mentally and emotionally.
Your thinking will become rigid.
In both work and personal life, why not take a moment to revisit what you want to achieve in your life?
Think about what you need to do to accomplish it. Use your brain and start planning.
Doing so will add a bit more color to your life.
See you next time!
