Hello. I’m Yasui, a solo business owner running a company that mainly inspects high-pressure gas facilities.
I’m relieved that I finally managed to send out estimates I had been putting off.
A constant stream of challenges keeps coming my way.
Putting my thoughts into words like this on my blog feels like a really good way to avoid losing myself.
If there’s another solo business owner out there who’s struggling.
If, someday in the future, someone reads this clumsy blog of mine and feels something that helps open a new path.
If that were to happen, I’d be incredibly happy.
Now, enough with the preface.
Lately, do you feel any real urgency in your work?
Little by little, I’m moving forward with an integration project.
No—scratch that.
“Moving forward” isn’t quite right. I am moving it forward (laughs).
But honestly, it barely progresses.
Unless I reach out, throw the balls I’m holding, and take action, nothing moves at all.
Tomorrow is the last business day of January.
With only one month left, I should feel焦り or desperation—but somehow, I don’t.
It’s strange.
That said, I haven’t always worked with urgency.
There were times I went with the flow or chose the easier path.
Of course there were.
But after going through various situations and facing real trouble, I realized I’d grown more than I thought.
In the end, without urgency, you can’t steer the ship.
You leave things to others, let nature take its course, put things off until the deadline, or just fade out quietly.
You’re using your precious time in life—your very life itself.
Have you ever really thought about who you work with?
Or who you choose to take work from?
You should be doing business with people who truly see you,
who value and appreciate the work you do.
Of course, there are plenty of people who care only about price, or who don’t care who does the job.
That’s not wrong—it’s business.
But you should still think about why you’re doing this work.
Otherwise, you’ll just end up being chased by it.
If you’re putting your life into your work, then you need to be serious about it.
If you think only in terms of hourly pay or “as long as I get a paycheck,”
your life will become unbearably dull.
What do you want to gain through this work?
What kind of life do you want to live?
I believe both your life and your work are things you decide for yourself.
At the very least, you shouldn’t hand over the steering wheel to someone else.
So—whose hands are on the wheel of your life right now?
Thank you for reading all the way through.
See you next time!
