Hello. I’m Yasui, the owner-president of a one-person company mainly engaged in inspections of high-pressure gas facilities.
I was hospitalized for a short time at the beginning of the year, but I was discharged today.
It wasn’t a serious illness, so please don’t worry.
That said, undergoing surgery under general anesthesia is quite frightening.
You don’t simply “fall asleep,” you know. Because breathing stops, they insert a tube to secure the airway for artificial ventilation.
“Okay, we’re going to administer the anesthetic now,” they said—and after about a seven-count,
when I opened my eyes again, I was already lying in my hospital bed. (laughs)
A bed that leaves your lower back aching when you wake up.
The uncomfortable IV needle in my left arm.
Even though it was only for a short while, it really made me think again about wanting to keep some distance between myself and situations like this…
Illnesses such as cancer that are genetic may be unavoidable, but problems caused by our own unhealthy habits—like drinking too much—are something we can take steps to prevent in advance.
If you’re thinking, “I really should exercise,” or “I need to cut back on drinking,” I believe the sooner you act, the better.
Quitting doesn’t guarantee perfect health, of course. But if you’re already thinking you want to stop or reduce something, then choosing to do so is probably the better path.
If you just keep dragging things out and something eventually happens, I think you’d be at a loss as to how to deal with your feelings toward yourself at that moment.
Your mind goes completely blank—a total whiteout.
Even if you regret it later and think, “If only I had stopped back then,” time won’t turn back, and the health you’ve lost won’t come back either.
That’s when you finally realize how important health is.
You whisper to yourself, deep inside, “You were foolish.”
People of our generation will likely have to work until around the age of 80.
With prices rising this much, they say that 20 million yen won’t be enough for retirement anymore—you may need 40 million.
If that’s the case, we need to make an effort to maintain bodies that allow us to work healthily and for as long as possible, day by day.
If you want to increase your lifetime earnings, taking care of your health might be the best investment you can make in yourself.
Let’s build it together—a healthy, happy life.
So, why not start something new tomorrow?
Thank you very much for reading.
See you again!
