Hello, this is President Yasui. I run a solo business specializing in inspections of high-pressure gas equipment.
This year, I’ve found myself wearing an air-conditioned work jacket more often—somewhat intentionally. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is actively promoting measures to prevent heatstroke in workplaces, so I believe it's important to follow suit.
Over the past four days, I’ve been working alongside Kagura Vapor Tech on an open-tank inspection.
Like many other companies these days, they too seem to be facing manpower shortages. Although this is just my personal observation, I’d say Kagura is one of the top three major players in the inspection industry—yet they are no exception.
Of course, being a manufacturer-affiliated inspection firm, they likely have a large volume of work and well-structured systems like regular weekends off. So it’s not hard to imagine that the challenges surrounding manpower differ from company to company.
When our small firm receives maintenance requests directly from manufacturers and is able to complete more and more jobs, we gain experience, deepen our knowledge, and gradually reach a level that rivals that of the manufacturer’s own maintenance division. I believe this benefits both sides.
As we increase the number of team members who can perform repairs, the wait time for customers should also shorten.
Being involved in LP gas—one of the most familiar forms of industrial gas—means we are supporting the backbone of society. Especially in rural areas, LP gas still plays a major role as a primary fuel source. It doesn't look like that will change drastically within the next year or two.
That’s the state of the LP gas landscape.
Now, regarding today’s title, “Crisis is Opportunity”—the fact that no new people are entering the field is, from a future perspective, a crisis. But at the same time, it could also mean there’s a business opportunity.
As the workforce dwindles, those who remain become more valuable by default. If the future arrives without major changes, those of us already in the industry won’t have to worry about finding work.
And of course, if people are available, that’s also an opportunity.
(I know—this sounds obvious, doesn’t it? LOL)
Building a hiring framework isn’t easy. We need to develop a solid system for training new personnel.
(We’re past the era where things could be done on the fly.)
If I get the chance, I’d really like to try nurturing talent. That’s something I’ve been thinking about more and more these days.
Thank you for reading this far! See you again soon!
