Hello, this is President Yasui, running a solo-owned business that primarily inspects high-pressure gas equipment.
It seems that there’s been an application for the rental house we’re currently offering, and the applicant is now under screening. I sincerely hope the screening goes well so they can move in soon. :)
Recently, I added a widget to my iPhone that displays my remaining lifespan.
Assuming I live to be 80 years old, as of today, I have 14,604 days left. The widget also allows you to display the remaining time in weeks or years, depending on your preference.
Since I just had a birthday, I now have 40 years remaining—exactly halfway through my life.
But I’m not here to say, “Let’s reflect on our life so far.”
What I really want to talk about is how we perceive this remaining time. For me, how do I feel about having 14,600 days left?
When I first added the widget, it displayed 14,608 days. My lifespan has already decreased by four days.
Whether you spend a day idly or running around busy with work, one day of your life is spent just the same. Even if you’re gaming on your phone or lose track of time browsing social media, a day is a day.
I’m not trying to say, “That’s not a meaningful use of time—you should live more productively!”
Even those moments—playing mobile games, scrolling through social media—are valid if that’s how you choose to spend your time. Being able to incorporate entertainment into your life is a luxury. It’s fair to say that’s enjoying life. We need relaxing, fun moments too.
At the same time, I think many people have things they want to do, places they want to go, or goals they want to pursue in life.
We often use the word “someday.” I do, and so do many others. But I sometimes wonder—do we really mean it? Do we truly want to do or go there someday?
As we keep saying “someday,” health issues may eventually appear and make it harder to act on those desires. Life is long, but it’s also short.
If we want to age while maintaining a certain level of health, we need to start doing something about it now.
Even if it’s just once a year, it’s worth granting yourself one wish—something you’ve always wanted to do or a place you’ve always wanted to visit. You are the person who lives closest to your own heart and body, and that gives you the greatest advantage in shaping a life you’ll be satisfied with.
How do you want to live your lifespan?
Thanks to this widget, I hope I can gradually start to change how I live each day.
Thank you very much for reading!
See you next time!
