Hello, I’m President Yasui, running a one-person company specializing in inspections of high-pressure gas equipment.
Takeshi Morioka, CEO of Katana Inc., who is famous for turning around Universal Studios Japan, recently spoke about the concept of the Blue Ocean Strategy on a TV program. (One of his well-known books is Shall We Talk About the Difficult Times? 😊).
I interpreted his message as emphasizing that companies can carve out a successful path by leveraging their unique characteristics and strengths.
So, what are the unique characteristics and strengths of a company?
For those of us who are solo entrepreneurs, these are directly linked to our own traits and strengths. But can we truly articulate them clearly?
If a solo entrepreneur is running a successful business, it likely means that their strengths and unique qualities are being communicated effectively to their customers.
However, how can we actively harness those strengths?
First, we must understand them ourselves.
Even the most powerful weapon is useless if you don’t know how to wield it.
At times, self-analysis is necessary.
Start by asking yourself:
- What do I truly enjoy?
- What values and philosophy do I bring to my work?
- What sets my company apart from others?
By branching out your thoughts in this way, you can gain clarity.
Additionally, reflecting on the good practices you consistently uphold can provide valuable insights.
If your business isn’t running smoothly, ask yourself:
- Why is my company struggling compared to others?
- Do I have any shortcomings?
Analyzing these factors may help you discover solutions.
Is the issue pricing, work quality, attitude, or something external on the client’s side?
Each of us approaches projects with our own policies and values.
But are these principles timeless, or are they outdated and misaligned with today’s trends?
It might be worth re-evaluating.
As generations change, so do perspectives on work.
Failing to adapt could result in becoming obsolete, much like the Galápagos effect.
Reassessing whether your stance and policies are timeless or a product of the past can be crucial.
Compared to when you were younger and full of energy, you might now appear less dynamic.
How, then, can you maintain the loyalty of existing customers?
How can you attract new customers?
Are you growing as a person, becoming someone whom clients can confidently entrust with their business?
Running a company requires balancing both consistency and adaptability.
We must move forward with both elements in harmony.
Let’s re-examine our strengths—both as individuals and as a team—so we can navigate the waves of this ever-changing era without being swept away!
Today’s Quote
"By leveraging your own strengths and unique traits, new opportunities can emerge. But to do so, you must first have a clear understanding of those strengths yourself."
See you next time!
