リスクを負わないことがリスク。

マイクロソフトの創業者の1人であるビル・ゲイツの言葉です。

リスクを負わないと成功はないのかもしれません。

ですが、それとは少しニュアンスが違っていると思います。

仕事を例に挙げてみましょう。

リスクを負わない仕事というのは、どういうものでしょうか？

過去に経験があるものや普段から納めていることはリスクを負わない仕事の部類になると思います。

リスクを負うということは、身の危険を感じるような仕事になると思います。

生きるか死ぬかの危険な仕事、ということではなく、

恐怖心を感じる、ドキドキする、背伸びする、脳に汗をかく、そのような仕事たちだと思います。

研究や実験が必要で今までに成し遂げたことがないようなこともまさにリスクを負うということになるでしょう。

失敗したらどうなる？

そういう恐怖に打ち勝って、リスクを負うことができるという自分に降りてきたチャンスを掴んで自分の力を発揮できるかどうか。

資金的なリスクを負うことも当然あると思います。

そういうことをなくして、企業としての成長や人としての成長はないのではないでしょうか。

お天道様は見ている、と言われるように真摯な姿勢で仕事に取り組んでいると、大きな仕事が舞い込んでくる場面があるのではないでしょうか？

普段のあなたをみて、大きな仕事を振ってくれる人がいる。

リスクを人に与えられる人はとても素晴らしい人ではないでしょうか。

仕事を頼む側にも責任が発生します。

それを承知の上であなたに振ってくれているのです。

要するに人を成長させてくれる人がいなければ自分の成長はないのです。

リスクを負いたくても負えないといえると思います。

リスクを負えるようになりましょう。

それが自分をさらなる成長へと導いてくれるのですから！

"Taking no risks is the biggest risk."  

This is a quote from Bill Gates, one of the co-founders of Microsoft.

It might be true that without taking risks, there’s no success. But I believe there’s a bit more nuance to it.

Let's consider this in the context of work. What kind of work carries no risks?  

Jobs where you rely on past experiences or tasks you've handled frequently would fall into the category of risk-free work.

On the other hand, taking risks often means engaging in tasks that give you a sense of danger. It’s not necessarily life-threatening, but more about feeling nervous, pushing your limits, and making your brain work harder. It's the kind of work that challenges you.

For example, tasks that require research or experimentation, or that involve accomplishing something that has never been done before — these are prime examples of taking risks.

What if I fail?  

Overcoming that fear and seizing opportunities to take risks is what allows you to harness your abilities and rise to the occasion.

Of course, there are times when financial risks are involved. Without taking those kinds of risks, a company can't grow, and neither can individuals.

As the saying goes, "The sun is watching." If you consistently approach your work with sincerity, there will come a time when a big opportunity knocks at your door.

There will be people who see how you work and entrust you with important responsibilities. Those who delegate such risks to others are remarkable people.

There's also responsibility on the part of those who assign tasks. They fully understand the risks and still choose to entrust you with the job.

In short, without people who encourage your growth, there is no personal development.

You could say that if you're not given the chance to take risks, you won’t be able to grow.  

Let’s aim to be the kind of person who is capable of taking risks.

Because those risks will lead you to further growth!

仕事ができる、できないはどのように区別されるのでしょうか？

スピーディーか？

正確か？

意図を汲み取れるか？

コミュニケーションが取れるか？

その時々によって求められるものが変わるわけですが、その時々をしっかりと見極めることができて、自分の持つ能力を如何なく発揮できるかが大切だと思います。

仕事できないおじさんというのは、たとえば新人がやるような雑務を入社２０年超のおじさんがやっている、若い頃にやっていた業務をいまだにやり続けているなど、若い頃から仕事に変化のない、年相応の業務を会社から与えられていない人があてはまると思います。

上司に聞かないとある程度の判断すら、まともに下せない。

若い頃ならまだしも、４０、５０にもなるいわゆるおじさんになってそういう人間でしかないと、虚しく思えて仕方ありません。

結局、仕事や業務をその場限りでこなすものとして考えていると、変化する場面で以前の経験が活かせなくなってきます。

目の前の出来事をどういう事象で起こっているのかを考えることで、物事の本質が見えてくるものです。

私はアラフォーです。

残念ながら？雑務もやりますし、荷物や道具の準備や積み込みも自ら行なっています。（1人しかいないからね）

さすがに誰かのいうがままに仕事をしているということはありません。

判断を仰ぐ、指示を仰ぐということは作業の中でありますが、考える癖をつけてきたせいか、その作業でもなるべく良い方法で進められればということをいつも考えて取り組んでいるつもりです。

年を重ねても２０代の頃と同じ業務しかしていない、という人生は避けたいと思いませんか？

仕事できないおじさんになるということは、将来的に虚しさを感じさせると思います。

今はまだ実感がないから分かりづらいかもしれませんが、５０、６０になり終わりが見えてくると自分の仕事人生を何気なく振り返った時に耐え難い苦痛を感じることでしょう。

そうなることは避けたい。

少しでもビジネスマンになりましょう。

そのための勉強をすることは今からでも遅くはないでしょう。

私たちの未来を少しでも実りあるものにしていきましょう！

How do we distinguish between people who are good at their jobs and those who aren't?  

Is it about speed? Accuracy?  

Can they understand intent? Communicate well?

The demands change depending on the situation, but what’s crucial is being able to accurately assess those moments and apply your skills to the fullest.

The so-called "incompetent old guy" at work refers to someone who, even after 20+ years at a company, still handles minor tasks that are typically done by new recruits, or someone who continues doing the same tasks they did when they were young. In essence, they haven’t adapted or taken on responsibilities suited to their age or experience.

They can’t make even basic decisions without consulting their boss. While that’s understandable when you're younger, by the time you're in your 40s or 50s, it's disheartening to be in such a position.

If you treat work as just something to get through at the moment, you’ll find that you can't apply your past experiences to new situations as things change.

By thinking about why certain events happen, you start to see the bigger picture and the core of the situation.

I’m in my 40s. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I still handle minor tasks, and I personally prepare and load equipment (since it's just me!).  

That said, I don’t just mindlessly follow orders. While I may need guidance or instructions for some tasks, I’ve developed a habit of always thinking about how to approach the work in the best way possible.

Don’t you want to avoid a life where, even as you age, you're still doing the same tasks as when you were in your 20s?  

Becoming the "incompetent old guy" at work will only lead to a sense of emptiness down the line. It may be hard to understand now, but when you're in your 50s or 60s, nearing the end of your career, you may look back on your working life and feel an unbearable sense of regret.

I certainly want to avoid that.  

Let’s work towards becoming better businesspeople, and it's never too late to start learning!

Let’s make our futures as fulfilling as possible!

今日、協力会社さんやお客さんを交えて雑談をしていました。

そこで、出た話題に「時間を読めるかどうか」というものがありました。

１つの作業にどの程度時間がかかるのか。

大きな作業は細かい作業の集合体と見ることができます。

たとえば、配管肉厚測定検査を全数終わらせようと思ったら、１点１点計測していけば終わるわけですよね。

で、その１点測るのにどの程度かかるのか。

その時間の読みを計れるかどうかなのです。

普段から言われるがまま作業をしているとなかなか身につかないかもしれません。

ですが、少しでも考えて仕事をしてみたら簡単に計れるようになるものだと思います。

工場全体にあるなら、歩いていく距離。

高いところにあるならそのための道具を準備する時間、運ぶ時間、脚立や梯子を設置する時間などもあるでしょう。

人員も適切な人数の配置ができるようになります。

この時間にここまで終わっていないといけない、最低ノルマのようなものも指示できるようになるでしょう。

責任者はだらだらとした仕事をやらせずに、時間管理を意識していきましょう。

Today, I was chatting with some partner companies and clients. One topic that came up was whether or not you can "read time."

How long does one task take? A large job can be seen as a collection of smaller tasks.

For example, if you plan to complete a full thickness measurement inspection of piping, it can be done one measurement at a time, right? The key is knowing how long it takes to measure one point. The ability to read and estimate that time is critical.

If you always follow instructions without thinking, you might not develop this skill. However, I believe if you start thinking about your tasks, it becomes easy to estimate time accurately.

If the task involves the entire plant, you need to factor in the walking distance. If it’s high up, you need to account for the time to prepare, transport, and set up tools like ladders or scaffolds.

You’ll also be able to allocate the right number of personnel efficiently. You can set minimum goals and say, "This much needs to be done by this time," improving overall time management.

Leaders should avoid letting work drag on and always be conscious of time management.

今日は、現場オフでした。

あと、４番目の子の誕生日。

寝ている姿を見てから、この投稿を打ち込んでいますが、横になっているサイズを見て大きくなったなぁと思いますね。

すごく可愛いのですが、甘やかしすぎないように気をつけています。。。

子供の成長はあっという間です。

長男は中学１年ですが、ぐんぐん大きくなってきていて、いつの間にか肩くらいまで背が伸びてきました。

自分を追い抜くほど大きくなってほしいものです。

誕生日だからといって、特別どこかへ行くこともなく、お昼にマクドナルドへ行ったり、夕方にはプレゼントを渡してそれで遊ぶ姿をみて、ほのぼのとした日を過ごしました。

夕方に公園へ行って、子供と過ごす時間を取れたなぁと思います。

明日から、大きな仕事がはじまるので、書類関係の最終の準備は先ほど確認まで終わらせておいて。

しっかりと備えれたと思いますので、よく寝たいと思います。

Today, I had the day off from work. Also, it was my fourth child's birthday.

As I’m writing this post after watching them sleep, I’m struck by how much they’ve grown. They’re still so cute, but I’m careful not to spoil them too much...

Kids grow up so fast. My oldest son is in his first year of junior high school, and he’s been growing rapidly. His height has already reached my shoulder. I hope he grows even taller than me someday.

We didn’t go anywhere special to celebrate, but we did go to McDonald's for lunch, and later in the afternoon, we gave them a birthday present, which they enjoyed playing with. It was a peaceful and heartwarming day. I also managed to spend some time at the park with the kids in the evening.

Tomorrow marks the start of a big project, so I’ve just finished checking all the necessary paperwork for final preparations. Everything is in order, and now I’m ready for a good night’s sleep.

お米について考えてみた I’ve Been Thinking About Rice

ブランド米というものをご存知でしょうか？

日本は全国のほとんどの地域でお米が取れます。

寒さ暑さに強い品種など日本の主食であるお米は多くの改良がなされていますよね。

美味しいお米は新潟県魚沼産のコシヒカリ。

という認識は古いのか、岐阜県でいうと龍の瞳がとても有名なブランド米だそうで、相当美味しいのだとか。

妻の母の実家である九州の叔父が田んぼを持っていて、そちらからお米を買って送っていただいているのですが、そのお米はコシヒカリ。

父の実家の富山から送ってもらう時もコシヒカリです。

我が家はコシヒカリを日常的に食しているわけですが、

日本もこれだけ暑くなると暑さに耐性を持たせて美味しく育つように改良されたお米などもあるらしく、そういうものがあるなら一度食べてみたいと思うようになりました。

送っていただくお米はもちろん美味しいですが、お米大国である日本に住んでいて、

さまざまな種類のお米を楽しまないのはもったいないように思えてきます。

北海道のゆめぴりかがとても美味しいそうです。

出張に行くたびに、その土地のお米を少し買って帰るというのもいいかもしれませんね！

Have you heard of branded rice? In Japan, rice is grown in almost every region. Over the years, various improvements have been made, such as creating varieties that are resistant to extreme heat or cold, reflecting the importance of rice as a staple food in Japan.

When it comes to delicious rice, many might immediately think of Koshihikari from Uonuma in Niigata. But is that idea outdated? In Gifu, for instance, a branded rice called "Dragon’s Eye" is quite famous and said to be incredibly delicious.

My wife’s uncle, who lives in Kyushu and owns a rice field, kindly sends us rice, which happens to be Koshihikari. We also receive Koshihikari from my father’s family in Toyama.

Since we eat Koshihikari daily, I’ve been thinking that, with Japan’s growing heat, it would be interesting to try rice varieties that have been improved to withstand high temperatures while still being delicious. If there’s such rice available, I’d love to try it.

The rice we receive is, of course, excellent. But living in a country like Japan, renowned for its rice, it seems like a missed opportunity not to enjoy the many varieties of rice available here.

I’ve heard that Hokkaido’s "Yumepirika" is particularly tasty.

Maybe I’ll start picking up small amounts of local rice from each place I visit on business trips.
