哲楽のセミナーへ行ってきました。
哲学なのですが、哲楽。
お酒を飲みながら聴講するというスタイルの一風変わったセミナーでした。
その中で、二宮尊徳の言葉として紹介された次のものが挙げられました。
「道徳無き経済は犯罪である。経済無き道徳は寝言である。」
後ろの言葉にすごくぐっとくるものがありますね。
人は慈善活動をする自分に陶酔することがあると思います。
未来のため、子供のため、社会のためだと。
素晴らしいことだと思いますし、そのことに関して異論はありません。
ですが、
・こんな私を世間はなぜ認めないのか？
・認知してほしい。
・補助金や助成金で活動を支援されて当たり前だ。
となりませんか？
慈善活動だけをして生活に必要なお金を十分に得られるならいいのですが、そのような事例はまだまだ少ないでしょう。
経済的に自立していれば、それだけで十分社会に貢献できているはずです。
税金を納め、社会の一員として経済を回すということそのものが、立派な社会貢献ですから。
自分が稼いだお金を物やサービスに支払うことで、また誰かの生活を支えている。
経済を回すということは、ただ自分のお金を消費することでなく、私たちもまた誰かを支えているということになるのです。
自分が得たお金は誰かに支えてもらったから私たちのところへやってきたのですから。

I recently attended a "Tetsugaku" seminar. It’s about philosophy, but with a twist—"Tetsugaku" means enjoying philosophy.
The seminar had a unique style where participants listened while drinking alcohol.
During the session, a quote attributed to Ninomiya Sontoku was introduced:
"Economics without morality is a crime. Morality without economics is mere talk."
The latter part of this statement really struck a chord with me.
I believe people sometimes become intoxicated with the idea of doing charitable work. For the future, for the children, for society. It’s admirable, and I have no argument against it.
However, don’t these thoughts sometimes arise?
- "Why doesn’t society recognize someone like me?"
- "I want recognition."
- "It’s only right that my activities are supported by grants and subsidies."
It’s fine if one can fully earn the money necessary for living through charitable work alone, but such cases are still rare.
If you are economically independent, that alone should mean you are contributing to society. Paying taxes and participating in the economy as a member of society is, in itself, a commendable social contribution. By spending the money you earn on goods and services, you are also supporting someone else’s livelihood. Contributing to the economy doesn’t just mean consuming your own money; it means that we are also supporting others. The money we earn comes to us because someone else supported us.
